This subject deals with the fundamental knowledge and techniques that underpin management accounting. It identifies the position of the management accountant within organisations and the role of CIMA. BA3 Fundamentals of Financial Accounting

The main objective of this subject is to obtain a practical understanding of financial accounting and the process behind the preparation of financial statements for single entities. These statements are prepared within a conceptual and regulatory framework requiring an understanding of the role of legislation and of accounting standards.

BA4 Fundamentals of Ethics, Corporate Governance and Business Law

The learning outcomes in this subject reflect the professional standards to be demonstrated for the benefit of all stakeholders. With this in mind, the place of ethics and ethical conflict is an essential underpinning for commercial activity. Ethics is more than just knowing the rules around confidentiality, integrity and objectivity. It’s about identifying ethical dilemmas, understanding the implications and behaving appropriately.

This course covers Introduction to organisations, Managing the finance function, Managing technology and information, Operations management, Marketing, Managing human capital.

You will learn how to Analyse issues and events in the global business environment, Develop an understanding of the structure and principles sustaining the operational functions of the organisation, Align and mobilise all its parts to implement strategy.

Financial Reporting and Taxation

Core objectives of Paper F1 are the preparation of the full financial statements for a single company and the principal consolidated financial statements for a simple group with Business Taxation making up 25% of the syllabus

You will learn how to Produce financial statements for both individual entities and groups with reference to international financial reporting standards, Manage cash and working capital within the business, Understand and apply basic principles of business taxation.

Management Accounting

Paper P1 primarily deals with the tools and techniques that generate information needed to evaluate and control present and projected performance.

You will learn how to Use budgeting as a means of short-term planning to implement the strategy of the organisation, Analyse information of costs, volumes and prices to take short-term decisions on products and services, Appreciate the impact of risk to these decisions.

Operational Level Case Study

Available four times a year, February, May, August & November. These assessments test knowledge at each level across the three pillars, and focus on levels 3 to 5 of the learning objective hierarchy: Application (3); Analysis (4); and Evaluation (5).

Students must complete all three objective tests within the Opertational level before they can sit the case study assessment.The focus of Operational level is on the short term.

In the Operational Case Study exam, your role will be that of a Finance Officer. Students need to understand their role within the case study exam in order to produce a good answer, demonstrating knowledge and applying skills from across the syllabus.

Project and Relationship Management

The E2 paper moves away from the emphasis on functional knowledge within Paper E1 Enterprise Operations, towards an integrated view of management across the organisation.

You will learn to develop a holistic approach to managing organisations from external and internal perspectives, to Implement organisational strategy through people, projects, processes and relationships.

Advanced Financial Reporting

How to prepare consolidated balance sheets profit and loss statements and cash flow statements for a group of companies also to analyse a company’s financial accounts to assess its performance and position

You will learn how to source long-term finance, produce and analyse complex aspects of group accounting, use analysis of financial statements to provide insights about the performance of the business over time

Advanced Management Accounting

The main focus in P2 is on the application of information in the management processes of decision-making and control, so as to optimise performance.

You will learn how to analyse, plan and manage costs to support the implementation of the organisation’s strategy. Manage and control the performance of business units within the organisation in line with short-term budgets and long-term strategy, make investment decisions, taking into account the risks related with such decisions

Management Level Case Study

Available four times a year, February, May, August & November. These assessments test knowledge at each level across the three pillars, and focus on levels 3 to 5 of the learning objective hierarchy: Application (3); Analysis (4); and Evaluation (5).

The focus of Management level is on the medium term and monitoring and implementation of strategy. In the Management/Gateway Case Study exam, your role will be that of a Finance Manager.

Paper E3 continues the integration of skills across functions, but concentrates on developing the knowledge and skills used in designing and implementing strategy.

You will learn to develop the skills and abilities needed by strategic leaders to direct and achieve the long-term success of their organisations, formulate and implement strategy, successfully lead and manage change

Financial Strategy

Paper F3 deals with the key elements in designing and managing the organisation’s financial strategy, in the context of contributing to achieving the organisation’s objectives

You will learn how to Formulate and implement financial strategy to support the overall strategy of the organisation. Develop skills to evaluate and recommend alternative sources of finance. Develop competencies required to value investment opportunities including divestments, mergers and acquisitions

Risk Management

The scope of the paper includes both financial and non-financial risks. The management strategies covered extend to the use of financial instruments, and more general strategies of risk identification and management,

You will learn to Identify, evaluate and respond to risks that could impact on the implementation of strategy. Develop the competencies required to analyse and apply the techniques, processes and internal control systems required to manage risk. Manage risks associated with both cash flows and capital investment decisions

Strategic Level Case Study

Available four times a year, February, May, August & November. These assessments test knowledge at each level across the three pillars, and focus on levels 3 to 5 of the learning objective hierarchy: Application (3); Analysis (4); and Evaluation (5).

Students must complete all three objective tests within the Strategic level before they can sit the case study assessment. The focus of Strategic level is on the long term and setting the strategy for the business.

In the Case Study, your role will be that of a Senior Finance Manager. The Case Study exam is essentially a virtual business role play. Therefore, students need to understand their role within the case study exam in order to produce a good answer, demonstrating knowledge and applying skills from across the syllabus.
